British technology company ZX Lidars has deployed its ZX TM wind Lidar monitoring system at the Klipheuwel wind farm in South Africa.

Launched in partnership with green energy supplier Globeleq South Africa, the installation is supports wind farm optimization by providing data on wind conditions impacting turbine operation.

“Our technology delivers precise wind data in real-time, informing optimizations to yield improved performance, reduced component stress and greater reliability,” stated Chris Slinger, Senior Scientist, ZX Lidars.

The ZX TM system measures wind flow patterns, identifying wind conditions that contribute to mechanical wear and performance loss. The data collected will support power curve verification and yaw misalignment checks, which are critical to improving turbine efficiency and extending equipment lifespan.

The data will be used by Globeleq South Africa’s operations team to inform turbine adjustments and maintenance planning, with the goal of reducing mechanical stress and enhancing energy output.
