Woodside, SAR Explore Oil and Gas Refinery Partnership

International oil company Woodside Energy and Senegal’s Société Africaine de Raffinage (SAR) are exploring a long-term partnership for crude oil refining.

Woodside Energy’s Sangomar project produced its first oil in June 2024 and will gradually ramp up to 100,000 barrels per day. The company is expected to deliver crude oil to the refinery in Mbao, near Dakar.

SAR aims to increase its refining capacity to five million tons per year according to AFRI6 standards and to diversify into petrochemicals. The refinery has adapted its facilities to process Sangomar crude and increased its storage capacity, boosting refining capacity from 1.2 million tons to 1.5 million tons per year.
