Global energy company Woodside Energy has awarded frame agreements to ocean services provider DeepOcean to provide subsea inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) services for the Sangomar deepwater oilfield, offshore Senegal.

Under the agreement, DeepOcean will oversee project management, engineering and execution of subsea services at the field. Services will include inspection, surveying, intervention and maintenance of the field’s floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel and standalone remotely operated vehicle operations.

“Sangomar is a large and impressive field development, with extensive subsea infrastructure,” stated DeepOcean CEO Øyvind Mikaelsen, adding, “Our aim is always to inspect and maintain it as effectively as possible, thereby keeping costs and operational disturbances to a minimum for Woodside.”

The frame agreements were awarded to DeepOcean subsidiary Searov Offshore SAS while Senegalese service company Teranga Oil & Gas Services will also assist in delivering the scope of work.

Sangomar will target 230 million barrels of crude oil reserves and is set to transform Senegal into a major regional producer. Phase 1 of the project involves 23 wells – comprising 11 production, 10 water injection and 2 gas injection wells – with 21 wells completed to date.

Developed in partnership between Woodside Energy and Senegal’s state-owned oil company Petrosen, production of the Sangomar field commenced earlier this month following the arrival of the Léopold Sédar Senghor FPSO vessel in February. Woodside Energy plans to continue commissioning and ramping up production through 2024.

Woodside Energy is the operator and owns an 82% stake in the Sangomar deepwater oilfield while Petrosen owns the remaining 18%.
