
Wabtec Secures Second Contract for Trans Guinean Rail Project

U.S. global engineering firm Wabtec has secured a $248 million contract from the Winning Consortium Simandou to supply locomotives for Guinea’s Simandou iron ore project.
Wabtec will deliver its ES43ACmi dual-cab locomotives, designed for optimal performance in Guinea’s high-temperature conditions, starting in 2025. The order is the second for the Trans Guinean Railway project and brings Wabtec’s total supply commitment for the initiative to over half a billion dollars.
Zhang Cheng, CEO of Winning Consortium Simandou said the order marks a milestone in developing and monetizing the 1.8 billion tons of iron ore reserves, the world’s second-largest untapped deposits, at Simandou project.
Mpilo Dlamini, Wabtec’s Regional Vice President for Sub-Saharan Africa, added the rail project will maximize Simandou’s potential to transform the Guinean economy through the empowerment of local talent and businesses.
