South African energy tech company Open Access Energy (OAE) has raised $1.8 million in seed financing to accelerate the growth of its AI-driven tools that support distributed energy developers. The funding round was backed by E3 Capital, Equator and Factor E Ventures.

OAE’s platform is designed to streamline operations for decentralized energy providers, automating processes such as metering, risk management and forecasting, while maintaining real-time balance between energy generation and consumption.

By leveraging AI and digitized workflows, OAE aims to help its partners reduce the time and cost of project development while enhancing long-term viability. The seed funding will support product development and customer growth, with a focus on scalability and replicability.

“Private generation is central to South Africa’s energy transition. This funding allows us to scale the tools that Independent Power Producers and Energy Traders need to participate in and benefit from the liberalized energy market,” said Gerjo Hoffman, CEO of Open Access Energy.
