Renewable energy firm JUWI has signed an agreement with solar PV manufacturer JA Solar for the provision of approximately 420,000 panels for South Africa’s Sonvanger and Paarde Valley PV2 projects.
The Sonvanger soalr plant- developed for global mining firm Glencore – and the Paarde Valley PV2 – developed for Sasol and Air Liquede – will produce 672,000 MWh of clean energy, avoiding the emissions of 625,000 tons of greenhouse gases per annum.
Richard Doyle, Managing Director, JUWI said the projects advance South Africa’s energy transition agenda of deploying nearly 30 GW of new wind and solar capacity by 2030. The solar facilities will ensure energy security and affordability as South Africa’s decommissions 11 GW of coal capacity.
The power plants will be commissioned by late 2026 and will be developed with independent power producers Pele Green Energy, TotalEnergies, Mulio and Reatile Group.
JUWI is rolling out over R6 billion-worth of solar PV projects in South Africa.
