Algeria’s national oil company Sonatrach and construction firm Tosyali have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly explore green hydrogen production from renewable energy sources within Algeria.
The MoU was signed on July 24 by Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi and Tosyali Chairman Fuat Tosyali. Both companies will conduct a feasibility study on green hydrogen production, which will be used to manufacture green steel at Tosyali’s steel plant in Algeria.
Algeria aims to boost renewable energy power generation to 15,000 MW and achieve 30% of its total energy mix from renewables by 2035. Currently, Sonatrach is developing a 50MW green hydrogen pilot plant in Arzew.
