
Sonatrach Launches Third Phase of $2.3BN Gas Expansion Project

Algeria’s National Oil Company (NOC) Sonatrach has launched the third phase of the Hassi R’mel gas expansion project to enhance gas production and meet rising domestic and international demand.
The $2.3 billion project involves the construction of three compression stations equipped with 20 turbocompressors, three demercurization units, the rehabilitation of an existing gas collection network and the integration of processing trains and utility tie-ins.
The engineering, procurement and construction is being carried out by a consortium comprising energy services firms Baker Hughes, Nuovo Pignone International and Tecnimont.
The project phases are scheduled for completion over the next 39 months with commissioning of the various stations anticipated between October 2026 and April 2027.
