Senegal and Mauritania have signed an agreement formalizing the entry into force of a bilateral measure to lift restrictions on the movement of people, goods and services across the border.

The agreement was signed by Yankhoba Diémé, Minister of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport, Senegal; and Ely Ould Veirik, Minister of Equipment and Transport, Mauritania and will eliminate requiring goods to be unloaded and reloaded at the border and enables seamless cross-border transport.

A joint technical committee made up of transporters and freight operators from both countries had worked to reach the consensus that led to the agreement. Technical departments, defense and security forces, customs and transport stakeholders will ensure full implementation of the deal under administrative supervision and with the support of local authorities.

This agreement follows another bilateral deal signed in June 2025, aimed at easing the mobility of citizens while maintaining security and identification requirements. It also complements the two countries’ economic cooperation in the joint development of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim offshore gas field.
