Automotive companies Daimler Truck and Global Truck System (GTS) have signed a letter of intent with government of Senegal to establish a local truck assembly plant in the country. Daimler Truck will supply completely knocked down kits for various Mercedes-Benz truck models, which will be assembled in Senegal under the leadership of the government and GTS.

A joint venture has been formed between the government of Senegal and GTS to implement the initiative, with Daimler Truck serving as the supplier and technology partner. The assembly plant is expected to begin operations in 2026, with trucks destined for use in defense logistics, fire and police fleets, waste management, construction and transportation.

GTS will oversee the setup and management of the facility, including staff recruitment, training and production planning. The Senegalese government will contribute land, offer tax and customs incentives and support workforce development. The German Foreign Office is backing the project as part of its ongoing partnership with Senegal.

“This project reflects our commitment to building industrial value in West Africa,” said Michael Dietz, CEO, Daimler Truck Middle East/Africa. Franziska Cusumano, CEO, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks, added, “We are transferring know-how and providing technical support to ensure successful local assembly.”
