Senegal, Congo Target Energy Cooperation

Senegal and the Republic of Congo will reactivate their bilateral joint commission, dormant since 2018, to strengthen cooperation in key sectors including energy.
Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and his Congolese counterpart Anatole Collinet Makosso made the announcement during a joint press conference in June. The two leaders agreed to establish an ad hoc committee to boost collaboration in strategic areas such as energy, forestry and agriculture.
Other priority sectors identified include sanitation, higher education, defense, finance, trade and special economic zones. Both governments expressed confidence in the future of Senegal-Congo relations despite the inactivity of the joint commission over the past seven years.
The next session of the Congo-Senegal joint commission is scheduled to take place in Brazzaville, continuing the work initiated during the last session held in Dakar in 2018.
Prime Minister Sonko said, “We must act quickly to establish ambitious and mutually beneficial partnerships.”
