RIMGaz Commissions Butane Storage Sphere in Mauritania
Share This Article
Downstream company RIMGaz has commissioned a 4,000 m³ storage sphere to increase Mauritania’s national butane storage capacity. The facility is part of the company’s investment program to support the country’s butanization policy.
The sphere raises RIMGaz’s total storage capacity to 10,000 m³, up from just 400 m³ in 2010. This increase enables the company to build a national security stock, which was previously not possible due to limited capacity. The storage upgrade also aligns with national goals to reduce deforestation and mitigate the effects of climate change by encouraging cleaner household energy sources.
The $7 million investment program includes the expansion of storage at the central depot, upgrades to RIMGaz’s internal network of 18 filling centers—which now hold a combined 800 m³—acquisition of additional gas cylinders and the installation of a pipeline to improve the gas unloading rate.
