Mining company Resolute has published an initial resource estimate for the Bantaco project in eastern Senegal, positioning the deposit as a key extension to the soon-to-close Mako open-pit gold mine. Mako’s mining operations are expected to cease shortly, with stockpile processing set to begin this quarter.

Located within trucking distance of the Mako mill, Bantaco is one of two satellite deposits, alongside Tomboronkoto, being explored to extend the mine’s life. The initial estimate at Bantaco South and West indicates an inferred resource of 266,000 ounces of gold. Further drilling is scheduled at the Bantaco Main zone later this year to increase the resource base.

“This milestone demonstrates the excellent progress our exploration team is actively making to successfully extend the life of mine at our Mako gold operation,” said Chris Eger, CEO, Resolute.

Bantaco offers development flexibility and could enter production ahead of Tomboronkoto. The two deposits together hold over 600,000 ounces of gold resources, with the potential to extend Mako’s operational life by up to a decade. Bantaco could be fast-tracked due to existing infrastructure and community relations. This would support a clear development timeline as the company aims to sustain gold production in Senegal.
