QatarEnergy has acquired a 27.5% working interest in Block 2813B (PEL0090), an offshore exploration license in Namibia.

The agreement was signed with the block’s operator, Harmattan Energy, a Chevron subsidiary, which retains a 52.5% interest. Local oil company Trago Energy and the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia hold the remaining 10% stakes each.

The license area covers 5,433 km² in water depths of 2,400 to 3,300 meters and is located approximately 200 km offshore, 70 km north of the Venus discovery.

“Following successful drilling operations in our other acreage in Namibia, we look forward to soon beginning drilling the first exploration well on this block,” said Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy.

Last month, the company also increased its share in Block 2913B to 35.25% and Block 2912 to 33.025%, alongside operator TotalEnergies and other partners. The strategic move strengthens QatarEnergy’s position in one of Africa’s most promising offshore exploration regions.
