Namibia’s PEL 79 Partners Secure 12-Month Extension

The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR) has secured a 12-month extension for Petroleum Exploration License (PEL) 79, located offshore Namibia. Granted by the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy, the extension prolongs the second renewal exploration period to July 2026.
Covering Blocks 2815 and 2915, PEL 79 is supported by extensive 2D and 3D seismic data and includes one well that encountered gas shows within the Kudu source rock interval.
PEL 79 is strategically located near high-profile discoveries and active licenses held by Shell, BW Energy and Rhino Resources, including Rhino Resources’ Capricornus-1X light oil discovery made in April 2025.
“The potential for high impact progress on PEL 79 adds to the prospect for significant developments across our Namibian offshore portfolio,” stated Robert Bose, CEO, Sintana Energy. “We expect material progress on all our licenses over the coming quarters.”
The PEL 79 joint venture is composed of NAMCOR (67%, operator) and Giraffe Energy Investments (33%). Sintana Energy holds a 49% interest in Giraffe Energy Investments, giving it indirect exposure to the asset’s future potential.
