Morocco: OCP Group Achieves Full Water Autonomy at Benguerir Site
Share This Article
Morocco’s state-owned phosphate miner OCP Group has announced it has attained full water autonomy at its mining operations in Benguerir. The project utilizes treated wastewater supplied via the newly commissioned Jorf Lasfar-Khouribga (J2K) pipeline from Marrakech’s treatment plant.
Set to advance OCP Group’s target for 100% non-conventional water use by 2027, the 203-km J2K pipeline is a critical component of the company’s subsidiary OCP Green Water’s strategy to strengthen regional water security for Safi, El Jadida and southern Casablanca. The J2K pipeline will also extend supply to Khouribga and support agricultural projects in the country.
The project is estimated to save over 80 million cubic meters of dam water per year, freeing resources for agriculture and benefitting communities in the Oum Rabia region.
