Swedish energy technology company Metacon has secured a €1.8 million contract for a green hydrogen pilot project in Morocco, marking its first wind-to-hydrogen initiative in Africa.
As part of the project, Metacon will supply a 1 MW pressurized alkaline electrolyzer to test the direct coupling of wind turbines with electrolysis technology. The initiative aims to advance Morocco’s ambitions to become a hub for green hydrogen, synthetic fuels and ammonia production.
“This contract marks the beginning of a long-term relationship with a strategic energy player in Morocco, aligned with their ambitions for large-scale production of hydrogen and e-fuels,” said Christer Wikner, CEO, Metacon.
The client – an undisclosed renewable energy producer with 2,000 MW in wind assets – plans to leverage the project to further its green energy goals.
