Infrastructure South Africa has signed two agreements with asset management firm Meridiam SAS and telecommunications company Huawei to finance infrastructure project preparation and support fiber infrastructure development, respectively.

Under the first MoU, Meridiam SAS will finance project preparation work in relation to South Africa’s Adopt a Municipality Program – an initiative that aims to improve infrastructure delivery at the local government level.

Additionally, the agreement will facilitate the identification of candidates for the Africa Infrastructure Fellowship Program, which seeks to address skills challenges in the public sector and improve research and knowledge sharing. The two parties also agreed to collaborate on infrastructure data bases to increase accuracy, immediacy and intelligence.

The agreement was signed by Mameetse Masemola, Deputy Director General, Infrastructure South Africa and Mete Saracoglu, COO-Africa, Meridiam SAS.

Meanwhile, the second MoU will see Huawei work with South Africa’s Department of Human Settlement and Department of Communications and Digital Technologies on the pre-provisioning of fiber infrastructure in public buildings, schools, urban settlements and government buildings.

The agreement will also facilitate research in the design of network infrastructure, including in the freight transport, water and energy sectors to accelerate proliferation of network connectivity in South Africa.

The MoU was signed by Masemola and Charles Cheng, Deputy CEO, Huawei South Africa.
