Mali and Russia have signed a civil nuclear energy cooperation agreement and agreed to establish an intergovernmental commission to oversee bilateral cooperation following a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Malian Transitional President Colonel Assimi Goïta on June 23.
The two leaders held detailed discussions on expanding ties in sectors such as geological exploration, natural resources, energy, logistics and humanitarian activities.
The Malian delegation’s visit to Moscow follows a period of growing alignment between the two countries, particularly in military and security matters. The inclusion of nuclear energy cooperation signals a shift toward collaboration in high-value sectors.
“This demonstrates the effectiveness and mutual trust between our two countries,” said Colonel Goïta.
