Uranium developer Lotus Resources has received regulatory approval from Malawi’s Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) for its Kayelekera Uranium Project’s Environmental and Social Impact Assessment.
With the approval, Lotus Resources – through its 85%-owned subsidiary Lotus Africa – will finalize preparations for the resumption of operations at the Kayelekera site, which is set for Q3 2025.
“We have been working very constructively with MEPA and we are very pleased that this approval, a critical milestone, has now been approved. We will continue to work closely with MEPA and all stakeholders as Kayelekera operations recommence,” said Greg Bittar, Managing Director, Lotus Resources.
The company expects to produce 2.4 million pounds of uranium annually during the first seven years of the mine’s projected 10-year life.
