Guinea-Conakry and Ivory Coast have announced plans to increase cooperation in trade given the economic potential of both countries.
During a meeting between Guinean President Mamady Doumbouya and his Ivorian counterpart Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan in June, the two heads of state agreed to strengthen collaboration in the areas of mining, energy and transportation.
“We have just held talks during which we discussed matters of mutual interest, particularly bilateral economic relations and the security situation in our countries and the region,” stated President Ouattara.
Projects identified for potential collaboration include the paving of the cross-border Lola Road, construction of the San-Pédro-Mont Nimba railway and demarcating and materializing the Ivorian-Guinean border.
During the meeting, President Ouattara indicated that trade between the two countries – estimated at €150 million per year according to the World Trade Organization – has increased by 78%.
