The Simandou mining project in Guinea-Conakry has reached a key milestone with the official breakthrough of the tunnel on the Transguinean Railway’s connector route.

The announcement was made on June 20 during a ceremony attended by government officials, local leaders and project partners in Beyla prefecture.

“The breakthrough of this tunnel represents a major step forward in the construction of the Simandou railway,” stated Ibrahima Souley Camara, Prefect, Beyla.

The 903m tunnel – comprising an 867m main structure and 36m of false shell – was completed in June , overcoming complex geological challenges since construction began in October 2023.

The railway is expected to transform the region by improving ore transport and boosting agricultural trade in the country.
