Development finance institution the French Development Agency is investing €64 million in the construction of power infrastructure in southern Mauritania. The investment falls under an agreement signed between Mauritania and France and will support the construction of a power plant in Kiffa as well as a high-voltage power line linking Kiffa with Ghayra.
The infrastructure – set to be connected to the national grid – will facilitate 100,000 new power connections along the line – boosting the country’s energy access rate.
The development comes on the back of a new program launched by Mauritania to engage financiers to support the expansion of power infrastructure across the country. The program seeks to develop high-voltage lines connecting the capital city of Nouakchott and Naama, integrating the country’s national grid with those of the broader region.
