
EU Grants €9M to AFD for DRC’s Development Projects

The EU has awarded €9 million in funding to the French Development Agency (AFD) to support waste management and vocational training in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The financing was formalized on June 20 through agreements signed between Antonio Capone, Head of Cooperation and Acting Chargé d’Affaires, EU Delegation to the DRC and Safia Ibrahim, Director, AFD.
The €4 million allocated to Kinshasa aims to bolster the To Petrola project, which has already generated more than 1,300 temporary jobs through drainage works and road rehabilitation in flood-prone neighborhoods along the Nd’jili River. The third phase of the project, now underway, includes urban road upgrades, pumping stations and plastic recycling initiatives.
Meanwhile, the remaining €5 million will go toward upgrading vocational training infrastructure at education institution the Institute National de Preparation Professionnelle centers in Kasaï-Central.
