Independent Power Producer Envusa Energy has announced it is nearing commercial operations for its 520 MW Koruson 2 project cluster in South Africa.
Comprising 240 MW of solar PV and 140 MW of wind projects, the cluster is expected to enter commercial operation in 2026.
“There is significant potential for us to expand, not only to contribute meaningful to the region’s energy needs, but also to play a role in advancing a liberal, more open and competitive electricity trading market in South Africa,” stated Nicole Mason, Acting CEO, Envusa Energy.
A joint venture between mining company Anglo American and industrial company EDF Power Solutions, Envusa Energy is targeting hard-to-abate sectors with scalable, portfolio-based energy solutions.
The Koruson 2 cluster forms part of a broader renewable platform aimed at enabling carbon neutrality and supporting market liberalization in South Africa’s power sector. The company plans to develop 3-5 GW of wind, solar and battery storage projects across various sites to supply power to multiple clients.
