Mozambican President Daniel Francisco Chapo met with Claudio Descalzi, CEO, Eni in Maputo on June 11 to review current and upcoming projects, including LNG expansion, agribusiness and sustainability initiatives.

The meeting highlighted the success of the Coral South Project, which contributed to 50% of Mozambique’s GDP growth in 2023 and is expected to drive 70% of growth in 2024, according to the International Monetary Fund.

The parties also discussed the newly approved Coral North floating LNG project, which will expand LNG production in the Rovuma Basin, and Eni’s plans to develop a biofuel-focused agribusiness initiative to support rural development and job creation.

Eni’s broader commitment to Mozambique includes carbon offset programs, such as clean cooking and Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation initiatives, aimed at promoting sustainable development.
