Integrated energy company Eni has inaugurated a vegetable oil extraction plant in Loudima, the Republic of Congo, set to provide feedstock for the company’s biorefineries. The project represents the first of its kind in the country and will support the decarbonization of various sectors, such as transportation.
Officially launched on June 28 by Congo’s President Denis Sassou N’Guesso, the Loudima agri-hub will produce 30,000 tons of vegetable oil per year for Eni’s Enilive biorefineries. In addition to vegetable oil, the plant will produce vegetable protein for livestock feed in the country. Aligned with the EU Energy Directive standards, the plant is expected to expand from the current 15,000 hectares of land to over 40,000 hectares, while tripling its output, by next year.
The project also incorporates training initiatives for local farmers aimed at supporting the development of new skills in mechanization, logistics and industrial processes.
