Eni, bp Resume Drilling Onshore Libya

Energy majors Eni and bp have resumed onshore exploration activities in Libya.

Announced by Libya’s National Oil company, Eni and its project partners – bp and the Libyan Investment Authority – plan to drill approximately 10,327 feet to assess multiple geological oil and gas formations.

“On Saturday, October 26, Eni began its exploration activities in the Area B (96/3) of Ghadames Basin, where the first exploratory well, A1-96/3 (Hasheem Prospect), was drilled,” the NOC expressed in a statement.

The recommencement of Eni and bp’s exploration activities marks the end of a decade-long halt in onshore drilling that began in 2014.

Meanwhile, Spanish multinational energy firm Repsol will also restart drilling in Murzuq Basin while Austrian energy company OMV will kickstart operations in the Sirte Basin in the following weeks, according to the NOC.
