French multinational utility Engie and independent power producer Pele Energy have started construction on the 75 MW Grootspruit solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in South Africa‘s Free State province.
The two solar plants will supply electricity to approximately 80,000 households and prevent the emission of 100,000 tons of greenhouse gases annually, once operational by the end of 2025.
“We are proud of these projects not only for the power they will generate but also for the structural development they will bring to local communities and the country as a whole,” stated Ronald Chindeka, Head of Investment and Funding at Pele Green Energy.
