
Construction Starts on 64 MW Hydro Power Plant in DRC

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ministry of Energy and Hydraulic Resources has announced the start of construction of the Katende hydroelectric power plant.
The 64 MW power plant will supply electricity to Kananga, Bunkonde, Tshimbulu and Mbuji-Mayi.
“This plant will have a capacity of 64 MW, of which 29 MW will be reserved for the city of Mbuji-Mayi,” stated Patrick Mbelu Wa Mbelu, Advisor, Ministry of Energy and Hydraulic Resources.
Construction work for the power plant is expected for completion within 24 months, with electricity distribution set for 48 months.
Engineering, procurement and construction management firm Mining Engineering Services will oversee construction of the powerlines and distribution networks for the plant.
