Congo’s national utility company Energie électrique du Congo (E2C) has received two spare part storage facilities built in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire to support the maintenance of the national power transmission network.

Funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) for 2.53 billion FCFA, the facilities are located in Itatolo, Brazzaville and Mongo-Kamba II in Pointe-Noire. Construction was carried out over 15 months by Central BTP. The Itatolo site will serve the Brazzaville, Pool-Plateau-Cuvette-Ouest, and Sangha regions, while Mongo-Kamba II will serve the Kouilou/Pointe-Noire and Bouenza/Niari regions.

These facilities are part of a €70 million financing agreement signed in 2015 between the Congolese government and AFD for E2C’s priority investment plan. Following a request from the government, the disbursement deadline was extended to May 2027. AFD also supports the full rehabilitation of the 110 kV Moukoukoulou-Mindouli transmission line.

“This is public debt used to upgrade critical infrastructure for E2C. The company must ensure regular maintenance and responsible management,” said Espérance Ondongo Soussa, Director of Studies and Planning, Energy Ministry.
