Energy major bp and a consortium comprising renewable energy and utility companies Masdar, Hassan Allam Utilities and Infinity Power have signed a Joint Development Agreement for a green hydrogen project in Egypt.
bp will lead the development and operation of the multi-phase project, which aims to produce green hydrogen and derivatives at scale.
“The diverse experiences of partners in energy projects present a great opportunity for regional cooperation and accessing global markets, fundamentally supporting Egypt’s energy transition plans,” stated Nader Zaki, bp’s Regional President for the Middle East and North Africa.
The consortium also signed a Framework Agreement with the Egyptian government for studies related to the project’s technical and commercial feasibility. The project aligns with the government’s goal of leveraging green hydrogen to fill the energy export gap in the country.
Abdelqader El Ramahi, Chief Green Hydrogen Officer at Masdar, stated that “this agreement reinforces Masdar and the UAE’s commitment to Egypt to realize its massive clean energy and green hydrogen potential…”
