Chinese mining company Baowu has completed the construction of a thermal power plant at the Simandou iron ore project in Guinea.
The thermal plant will provide a stable energy supply for the mining operations at Simandou –one of the world’s largest undeveloped high-grade iron ore deposits.
The project is a joint venture involving several mining companies, including Baowu, Winning Consortium Simandou (WCS) and Rio Tinto.
The development also includes the construction of supporting infrastructure such as railways and ports to facilitate the export of iron ore. The project aims to produce up to 120 million tons of iron ore annually upon completion.
