Azule Energy, Sonangol Sign Deal for Biorefinery in Angola
Share This Article
International energy company Azule Energy has signed an agreement with Angolan national oil company Sonangol to enhance decarbonization at the Luanda Refinery – the country’s sole operating refinery.
According to the terms of the deal, the partners will assess the feasibility of constructing a biorefinery at the existing complex. Both Azule Energy and Sonangol will provide the required technical and operational support for the refinery, which aims to improve access to low-carbon energy in Angola.
The agreement follows an MoU signed between Sonangol and Azule Energy in September 2023 for collaboration in the fields of decarbonization and renewable energy. In 2022, the partners commissioned a new petrol production complex at the Luanda Refinery which increased output from 395,000 liters per day to 1.5 million liters per day.
