At the upcoming Invest in African Energy (IAE) 2025 Forum, the high-level session Financing the Transition: Unlocking Private Capital for Sustainable Development will explore the policy frameworks, partnerships and strategies needed to mobilize large-scale investment to combat climate change, expand energy access and reshape Africa’s economic future. Featuring top energy policymakers, financial leaders and project developers, the session will focus on building investor confidence and turning the continent’s renewable energy potential into bankable projects.

At the heart of this conversation is the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), which is driving continental initiatives such as the Continental Master Plan and the Africa Single Electricity Market. These flagship projects aim to harmonize energy systems, promote cross-border electricity trade and accelerate the development of regional infrastructure. Recent developments have seen AUDA-NEPAD deepen its collaboration with partners like the EU and AfDB to mobilize technical assistance and investment pipelines, particularly in support of green infrastructure and digital energy platforms. By creating a unified, transparent and stable investment environment, AUDA-NEPAD is laying the groundwork for scalable, investor-ready energy projects that support both economic development and climate resilience.

IAE 2025 is an exclusive forum designed to facilitate investment between African energy markets and global investors. Taking place May 13-14, 2025 in Paris, the event offers delegates two days of intensive engagement with industry experts, project developers, investors and policymakers. The session will bring together a distinguished panel including Nardos Bekele-Thomas, CEO of AUDA-NEPAD; Towela Nyirenda-Jere, Head of Secretariat at the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP); Vanessa Baldwin, CEO of Cata Energy; Dr. Amine Idriss, Energy Policy Expert at the AEEP Secretariat; Brian Moshele, CEO of Mosomo Investment Holdings; and Humphrey Asiimwe, CEO of the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum. Together, these leaders will explore how to strengthen regulatory frameworks, build public-private partnerships and leverage innovative financing models that de-risk projects and catalyze investment.

With sub-Saharan Africa accounting for just 3% of global energy investment despite housing one-sixth of the world’s population, the urgency to unlock capital is greater than ever. This session promises not only to identify bottlenecks, but also to chart actionable pathways toward a greener, more prosperous future – where sustainable development is both investable and inclusive. By convening key stakeholders across public and private sectors, IAE 2025 aims to drive practical solutions that align global climate goals with local development needs.
