The Senegalese Rural Electrification Agency (ASER) has launched a solar electrification project, in partnership with the International Renewable Energy Agency and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
With a budget of 7.9 billion FCFA, the project aims to provide clean and reliable electricity to over 30,000 people across the regions of Matam, Saint-Louis, Louga, Kaffrine and Tambacounda.
The initiative involves the construction and rehabilitation of mini solar photovoltaic power stations to support rural electrification. It is part of Senegal’s broader strategy to achieve universal electricity access by 2029, in line with directives from Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.
The project targets remote and underserved areas and is designed to reduce disparities in energy access. It aims at improving solar infrastructure and enhancing rural development.
