Representatives from the Angolan and UK governments have met to discuss opportunities for cooperation in infrastructure, academia, and energy and mining sector development.
In a meeting on May 8, the parties discussed potential investment opportunities in the Lobito Corridor – a railway infrastructure project connecting the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia to Angola.
The discussion also involved academic cooperation between UK institutions such as Camborne School of Mines and the University of Aberdeen and Angolan institutions to train Angolans in the fields of mining, geology and seabed mining.
According to Paulo Tanganha, National Director for Mineral Resources at Angola’s Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, the British delegation also expressed interest in collaborating on the modernization of the Moçâmedes Railway.
The development of a green hydrogen project – in partnership state-owned Sonangol’s Research and Development Center – was also highlighted as a potential area for collaboration between the two countries.
The government representatives included José Barroso, Secretary of State for Oil and Gas, Angola; Calvin Bailey, Trade Envoy, British government; Bharat Joshi, Ambassador of the UK in Angola; and Helder Sampaio, Country Director at UK Department for Business and Trade in Angola.
