Energy major ExxonMobil has concluded drilling operations at the Likember-01 research well in Block 15 offshore Angola. The well was drilled between February and April 2024, revealing the existence of high-quality, hydrocarbon-bearing sand packages.
Located within the Kizomba B development area – operated by ExxonMobil and developed in partnership with national oil company Sonangol and international energy companies Equinor and Azule Energy – the well was drilled to a water depth of 3,013m.
The Likembe-01 well is the first to be drilled as part of a broader incremental production initiative. The initiative is spearheaded by the country’s concessionaire and regulator the National Oil, Gas & Biofuels Agency and aims to increase output at already-producing concessions in Angola.
The successful drilling results at the Likembe-01 well revealed strong indications of enhanced volumes in Block 15, which has produced 2.5 billion barrels in cumulative oil production in 20 years.
