Niger’s Ministry of Petroleum has announced it will create favorable conditions for Algeria’s national oil company (NOC) Sonatrach to resume its operations at the Kafra oil field.

The announcement was made on August 7 during a meeting between Niger’s Minister of Petroleum Mahaman Moustapha Barké Bako and Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab that aimed to warm up bilateral relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, Minister Bako proposed the formation of a joint task force consisting of experts from both nations to enhance skills development, consultations and the effective implementation of large-scale projects – such as the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline project.

Support for the Nigerien energy sector will be provided through Sonatrach by enhancing its presence in Niger and fulfilling previous contractual commitments.
