Pan-African financial institution the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a €26.5 million financing package to support the construction of a 62 MW greenfield solar PV plant in Sokodé, Togo.
The funding includes a loan of up to €18.5 million from the AfDB and an €8 million concessional loan from the bank’s multi-donor Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa. Additional financing will be provided by French development finance agency Proparco.
The project, which features a total cost of €61 million, is being developed by French power utility company Électricité de France. The company will oversee the design, construction and operation of the greenfield solar plant as well as an 11-km transmission line in Sokodé.
Set to mitigate approximately 13,600 tons of CO2 emissions annually, the project aligns with Togo’s target of installing 200 MWp of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Once operational, the plant is expected to generate 87 GWh of electricity per year.
